James 1:19 “So, dearly beloved, let everyone be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger…”
Is our soul’s account so emptied?Have we nothing left to offer?
Are our hearts as hard as diamonds whilst devoid of any profit?
Can we not forgive offenses, even those our flesh still forges;
found against ourselves as well as any other now unfolding?
So this fractured fool retreating
ceases from one “final question”.
Rather turning from pursuing Hope,
my walk now finds refreshing.
Yet not for gained Forgiveness nor for Reconciliation…
though my soul still yearns relentless for such seamless Restoration.
Till absent of agenda and without Intentions darkened…we shall meet
before HIS Cross without offense. Yes! Wholly Pardoned!
As HIServant, son and saved vessel in your service,
Devotional: Acts 24:16 “In this also I myself strive to have a conscience WITHOUT OFFENSE toward GOD and men through (in) everything.”
There’s an obvious epidemic of people taking a fence over the slightest things. It is a forced nurturing by the media and other narcissistic sources who have warped, self-centered views at present.
The levels are so high now that simple people like and including myself look around and scratch their heads in disbelief.
Ridiculous, outlandish, immoral and godless claims are made every hour as the moral fabric of our country is further torn.
James 3:16 “For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.” (Constant offense and Contempt)
“Turn the other cheek” is now the mantra spewed out by those eager to harm Christians, those angered just by the mere mention of JESUS’ wonderful NAME, and those simply against the Bible and all that that means and implies.
Yet our own flesh is quickly “triggered” with indignant thoughts and Appalling’s reaction. But to say our both such responses are always “righteous” by the WORD’s definition would be tantamount, even equal to, lying.
Let’s put it this way. Are we honestly and instantly as “offended” (or as grieved) as the HOLY SPIRIT is with our own sin? Wasn’t the self-certified righteousness of the Pharisees as ugly and horribly offensive then just as our own is now?
Isn’t our theft of Offense often coupled with errant Contempt? Isn’t it in just a fraction of a second where we have vainly imagined some sort of incorrect rebuttal or subtle evil against our perception of being wronged…even by those in the Body?
Now I described it as our theft of Offense above because one TAKES offense. In order to BE offended, one must take its cloak upon themselves. Yes, there is righteous indignation and offense such as CHRIST’s response to the money changers in HIS FATHER’s house.
But our flesh isn’t perfect and outward, gracious responses to perceived offenses against us DON’T equally mirror our hearts.
Leviticus 19:18 “You shall not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the LORD.”
Yet the Pharisees, just like we still falter, were called “white-washed tombs” for the disconnection between their heart’s reaction and their outward actions meant to seem godly.
They were offended by the Gospel even, in addition to anyone not of their cloth or kind. Consider Galatians 5:11 “If I, brothers, still preach circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross has been removed.”
The Cross was offensive to them and to those today even who are perishing in their self indignation and personally righteous assessments!
Therefore! It is only by the constantly keeping HIS WORD in our heart and mind that we can walk worthy of HIS calling.
It is only by reminding ourselves daily and visibly through study of the BIBLE that HIS blood ALONE bought our eternal cleansing and our perfect pardon!
This wondrous knowledge of HIS will for us helps our hearts and minds to process what “turn the other cheek” truly means. In light of all HE did for me, without me earning or deserving a drop of HIS blood to be shed in my place, then we can surely “endure” the suffering of verbal and physical offenses.
As Paul stated in Romans 8:18 “I consider that our present sufferings (and any earthly offenses) are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.”
The precious blood of CHRIST! It is our stain AND offense REMOVER, Beloved! Amen and amen!
