Psalms 51:10 “Create in me a clean heart, O GOD, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”
A Second past Seven!
After taking in a deep breath, the immense brown bear exhaled an expanding steam cloud. Then closing his eyes within the white haze, there was a momentary pause as if listening for some sound. His peaceful repose, nearly statuesque and equally quiet, contrasted the image most held who had witnessed his movements at other times.
Whether fighting or digging for food or protecting himself from the elements, he was a vision of pure strength. His intimidating stance, even from a great distance, was a widely observed warning to hunters searching for deer or other game. But none were visible today. Neither were the nutrients and meat which this grizzled animal of nearly 10 feet in height was seeking.
Hungry yet without desperation, so he began rummaging for insects, roots and bulbs of plants. Maybe tomorrow, if he didn’t find enough organic sources, he would hunt a small animal. Being farther inland than his coastal brothers, fish weren’t a food target as such.
Effortlessly tearing through both ice and tundra, his giant left paw unearthed a small collection of termites. With a few short swings, he had ripped a nearly eight foot, decayed log into several pieces. It was shredded after a couple more swipes and produced mouthfuls of both grass and insects.
Amazingly, this uncovered little snack settled his cravings as he casually rolled his growing, 900 lb frame through the tall grass. The noonday sky was especially clear and the bright sun overhead, especially warm. Lazily distracted by the warm breeze, he ended up on his back, gazing upwards at whatever flew past.
Soon an hour had expired without any fanfare and his belly began grumbling again. Mildly annoyed yet also bored with his lounging, this matured, fuzzy behemoth decided to move on. Adjusting till all four legs were firmly planted, he soon caught the wisps of a fresh smell.
Curiously it wasn’t more of an organic scent nor of the typical small game he’d chased in the past. No, this was unique and getting stronger with each passing wind.
Instinctively he stopped and rose on his hind to legs to fullest height. His wet nose nose deeply inhaled the crisp air and filtered the incoming aroma till he was almost certain of its source. Man.
Swiveling with remarkable speed, he simultaneously dropped to all fours again and burst forward towards the human figure approaching. Rapidly closing the space between them, he suddenly dug his long claws into the thawing ground and skidded briefly to a halt. This wasn’t Man but was similar to him. This wasn’t a human although his other senses told him that it must be.
Then…then he heard his name and he knew…HIS NAME! There CHRIST stood quietly with HIS hands and arms outstretched, beckoning for the large beast to draw near.
As Confusion’s clouds began to dissipate, Clarity then took his hand which had miraculously been transformed into one just like the LORD’s! Looking downward through tears then and placing a fresh palm over his open mouth, so he trembled violently. Somehow now standing face to face with his Creator, so Nathaniel recalled his own name once more and remembered the past.
Having chosen decades for his own ways and having filled them with Pride, Contempt and Arrogance, Nate wept with remembrance. He had been changed somehow into that animal form for 7 years. He had momentarily lost track of Time, who he had been…and who CHRIST had called him to be.
But no longer! He leapt into the SAVIOUR’s embrace, still weeping and loudly confessing his errors. The LORD simply held him for what seemed like forever as everything surrounding them became a brilliant white as the glow of Heaven itself! Instinctively, Nate held on tighter, as he felt being drawn near to the Light…expectant of Glory!
Feeling the LORD’s release, he then pressed toward the sun-like display as he heard his name once more. Opening his eyes slowly with the accompaniment of greatest joy, he was met by the warmest and most tender eyes looking deeply into his.
“Nathaniel, Nathaniel!” Attentively listening to the voice this time with all of his senses restored, Reality showed him his room and hospital bed. The soft sound of his name was created by his wife and he suddenly felt the heavenly adrenaline fade from his body. He was back in his earthly life.
All sound then dissolved into the same cloudy haze. He felt immensely weak and observed that his once large frame had been reduced to a mere fraction. But…he was home and his children, now older, were there also!
His beautiful wife cried happily as the LORD spoke to his heart. “Nathaniel, my Child. Go and preach MY NAME for the time is short. I have returned you to this place to complete the work you were assigned. Speak to all, restrain MY Good News from no one and rejoice! Your time has come and you shall bear MY blessings till I return!
With these departing words, all of his senses became immersed by his surroundings. Everyone was joyous and he knew this was his second opportunity to do things right “the first time”. Thankfully recommitted to his purpose on Earth, so he began to fully grasp all that GOD had given him.
Looking down then his breath suddenly paused and while holding his left hand up to the light, he trembled with joy all the more. His fingernails still had dirt under them.
Amen and amen!
As HIServant refocused upon HIS WORD, digging daily…
Devotional: Psalms 51:12 “Restore to me the joy of YOUR salvation and sustain me with a willing spirit!”
Between the lives of Nebuchadnezzar, the Prodigal son and Paul…we see great purpose and compassion from the GOD, our GOD, overall. The FATHER of our “second chances.”
“A Second after Seven” refers then to that instant after the seven years where King Nebuchadnezzar had been an animal, a brute beast with claws for fingernails. Daniel 4:33 “That same hour the judgment was fulfilled, and Nebuchadnezzar was driven from human society. He ate grass like a cow, and he was drenched with the dew of heaven. He lived this way until his hair was as long as eagles’ feathers and his nails were like birds’ claws.”
It is aligned with the moment when the Prodigal son who wasted his life till GOD “awakened” him to the fact that he should go home and resubmit to his father’s will. He had no food or sustenance at all. Luke 15:16 “No one in the country would give him any food, and he was so hungry that he would have eaten what the pigs were eating.”
It directly connects with Paul’s three days of blindness and fasting after which GOD restores his sight…to only seek HIM! Acts 9:9 “For three days he was blind, and did not eat or drink anything.”
What then must we be brought through in this life to turn again unto the Bishop and Shepherd of our souls? Isn’t it clear that GOD, our GOD, the only wise and true GOD…is the AUTHOR of second chances? Hallelujah!
Psalms 51:11 “Do not cast me away from YOUR presence and do not take YOUR HOLY SPIRIT from me!”
In each of these three examples we see their reconciliation with The FATHER! We see also the guaranteed Hope which is there also for us to be renewed and transformed afresh as we submit to HIS authority. By WHOM are we then blessed!
So repent, proud soul! Rekindle the fires, you Wayward! Come be healed in HIS hands, oh Blind!
Be ye reconciled to The LORD your GOD even now! Romans 5:10 “For if, when we were enemies of GOD, we were reconciled to HIM through the death of HIS SON, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through HIS life!
Prayer: FATHER! Thank YOU for never leaving me or discarded my life! Thank YOU for always calling, always drawing me back to YOURSELF! Thank YOU for this extreme hunger and thirst for YOUR ways. Oh LORD GOD, I will cling to THEE now and always with the bonds of sincere Faith…trusting wholly in YOU.
Thank YOU for restoring me, JESUS!
Amen and amen!
