Proverbs 22.6 “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”
Hallmarks of Faith!
Brought to the LORD as a vessel devoid of both Wisdom and age: lacking learned Understanding.
Taught on the knees of my mother and father, there Knowledge was born by GOD’s grace — thus imparted.
Joined also were elders who spoke of CHRIST’s NAME, with lengthy discussions displaying Zeal’s reverence.
Without second thoughts, in their steps I once walked then believed I in HIS…WHOM their hearts had revealed.
Such blessing then mine for their legacy left, whose passions enlightened my path towards Heaven!
Thus, by receipt, Self builds on their foundations which stand upon HIS! Oh, what hallmarks of Faith!
As HIServant building with CHRIST,
Devotional: A Hallmark is defined as a distinguishing characteristic, trait, or feature. As a Christian parent then, significant influence is to be applied to their children.
Ephesians 6:1 “Children, obey your parents because you belong to the LORD, for this is the right thing to do.”
Sadly many parents claiming CHRIST are more known as “Sunday only” believers. They value social events and sports activities above the meat of the WORD.
But I stand blessed beyond measure for my parents were and yet are the strongest CHRISTians I have ever known.
Diligent students, digging for GOD’s great truths, steadfast faith displayed through loss of a son and husband through separate and violent car wrecks.
Both times they demonstrated their deep foundations in CHRIST. Consider how accurate and direct 2 Timothy 1:3-5 is for this message.
“I thank GOD, WHOM I serve with a pure conscience, as my forefathers did, as without ceasing I remember you in my prayers night and day, greatly desiring to see you, being mindful of your tears, that I may be filled with joy, when I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also.”
Now fewer and fewer homes have such dedicated generations living for the LORD. Why? Because teaching the meat of the WORD through rigorous study is considered “seeker unfriendly”.
Else it would be vigorously advocated from the pulpit. Let that sink in for a moment or lifetime.
So today’s Christian graduates are entering the workforce viewing deep faith CHRISTianity as an “elective”.
Settling then for good music entertainment and a soft-serve serving of “fluff-faith”…so the generation and Family Faithful anchor has been cut off in favor a much lighter option.
1 Timothy 4:12 “Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.”
But today! Here’s the rhetorical question! Why are the statistics rising of our young adults leaving the Christian faith in the US? Across the world?
Because “correction in love” is viewed as heavy-handed. In fact, Correction has been replaced by anything that has a “feel good” message.
Hence, “just love…don’t judge”.
That’s why countless of Christian parents today are unconsciously sabotaging the 2 Timothy 1:3-5. By granting higher prioritization of social things including the highly preferred, time-boxed, love ONLY, mostly entertainment oriented church service.
Comfort, as such, is highly desired over embracing HIS correction and redirection. 1 Peter 4:16 “Yet if anyone suffers as a CHRISTian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify GOD in that name.
So I thank GOD profusely and endlessly that my grandparents and parents put GOD first. They made mistakes and messed up like any other soul. But!
They didn’t compromise. Therefore, their legacy lives on vibrantly and visibly. They corrected me in love sternly and I know the “Why?” my childish feelings weren’t spared back then.
As my grandparents and parents studied GOD’s WORD and stayed the course without cutting corners, so I have the path lit before me to do no less and if possible burn brighter and dig deeper.
I would do so that the “NET NET” of my life is seen building on the WORD and then their history of service and love for ALMIGHTY GOD.
Amen and amen!
