Job 33:4 “The SPIRIT of GOD has made me, and the breath of the ALMIGHTY gives me life.
Catching HIS Breaths!
With a final lunge forward,
still his sword met with steel.
An opponent — his equal
in Zeal and of strength.
With each thrust and each parry,
yet all had been thwarted.
His stance was thus shaken.
Past the breaking point often,
he’d rallied with Courage.
But at present, it’s absence
compelled him to kneel.
Fate bravely awaiting
since he had been vanquished;
To this foe he was prone
until Silence awoke him.
With a wearied gaze lifted,
his heart beheld JESUS…
WHO had mirrored each movement
of all his aggressions.
Thus with swirling Confusion
this Christian fell prostrate.
Why was CHRIST his opponent;
what offense caused this fight?
Then before one more teardrop
could flood their surroundings,
Glory’s hand rested on him
withdrawing his anguish.
There the voice of the LORD GOD
explained what had happened…
while uplifting the body
of HIS weeping child.
“Breathe in deeply, Beloved!
See? MY actions bore Purpose…
for I moved to protect you,
MY son…from himself.”
“So I parried your angered
missteps with Affection.
Redirecting your outbursts
till with Forfeit, you bowed.”
“Take Fatigue then, MY blessing,
engaging your “weakness”;
on MY strength — soul relying
at last! Self — defeating.”
“Thus MY will — intervening
paused yours for reflection.
Stand at rest in MY steps now…
while I do the breathing.”
As HIServant at rest in HIS heavenly steps,
Devotional: 2 Corinthians 12:7-10 “7 Lest I be lifted up by the abundance of revelations, a thorn for my flesh was handed over to me, an angel of satan to buffet me, lest I be lifted up. 8 And I begged of my LORD concerning this three times, to remove it from me. 9 And HE said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for MY power is perfected in weakness.”
I shall therefore joyfully boast in my sufferings, that the power of The MESSIAH may rest upon me. 10 Because of this, I am pleased with suffering, with disgrace, with distress, with persecution, with imprisonment, which is for the person of The MESSIAH, for when I am weak, then I am strong.”
Without surprise then, we see this truth at work in the lives of men such as Paul here as well as Moses and Jonah.
Where GOD intentionally apprehended and confronted each man before resetting them on the path HE purposed solely for them.
Consider the following: GOD struck down Paul on the road to Damascus and changed him from being a hater of the Way to a devout follower.
HE removed Moses from the luxury of Pharoah’s palace to live as a fugitive in the desert until appearing to him in a burning bush.
HE stopped Jonah by directing a massive fish to swallow him for running away from GOD’s plans and then delivering him to the very place he was to preach after a “pause” of three days.
Psalms 18:30 “As for GOD, HIS way is perfect; the WORD of the LORD is flawless. HE is a shield to all who take refuge in HIM.”
Our human wisdom grasps that the best, most sure and quickest path is the one HE designs for us.
While knowing such roads are sacrificial for HIS glory, vastly focused on educating and uplifting others, often devoid of accolades, praises and pay, our flesh usually seeks a compromise.
Speaking most of all to myself, drop all the “change requests” and simply serve wherever you are.
Won’t HE WHO has begun a good work in you bring it to completion? Philippians 1:6 “For I am confident of this very thing, that HE WHO began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of CHRIST JESUS!”
HE is certain to follow through with each of us! So what’s the problem, oh Self of little faith?
We often view the starting point and each connecting point with disapproval and disdain. We analyze it repeatedly rather than praying and doing what we are able…in good faith!
Isaiah 55:8 “For MY thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways MY ways,” declares the LORD.
Well, that pretty much clears up me needing to advise Almighty GOD on such details.
So the point of this message is when the brick walls come, the hundreds of steel doors are slammed shut, when the path forward is not only blocked but the bridge ahead has been entirely removed…think on these things.
Continue to serve in the time of Pause, faithfully expecting the revealing of your next step. The Israelites waited in the desert until GOD’s cloud by day or HIS Pillar of Fire by night moved.
Until then, they waited. Just like Paul until GOD’s servant brought HIS healing touch to cure blindness. Just like Moses “on hold” in the desert till GOD sent him back to Egypt. Just like Jonah was for the three days he was in the belly of the great fish.
While in such moments, lift HIS praise with every ounce of faith placed on and in the WORD of GOD which tells us plainly…HE follows through!
While we stand firmly held in HIS arms, trusting HIS timing, we can rest because HE knows the way that I take AND the path HE wants me to go on!
The reins of this life are always in HIS hands to do with as HE wills. Then when Self is defeated within us, no longer fighting for its own way, GOD moves purposefully inside and through us.
Therefore we shall come forth as gold as we respect HIS sovereignty, taking advantage of all such moments where we can catch HIS breaths into us!
Amen and amen!
