1 Peter 2:24 “JESUS took upon HIMSELF our sins [when] HIS body was placed upon the cross so that we, [through] dying to [i.e., giving up] the sinful life, would live for righteousness. You were healed [from your sins] by HIM being brutally treated.”

Devotional: Isaiah 46:10 “Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things which have not been done, saying, ‘MY purpose will be established, and I will accomplish all MY good pleasure’;”
How often our thoughts rush through both a unconscious and subconscious filter. Rushing at breakneck speeds without much of a brake, then the “wall” we hit is “waking up”.
Consciousness. At this point we are starkly confronted with a crossroads. Follow the path of which we were dreaming or not. Sometimes we unfortunately experience a nightmare and continuing onward is the very last thing we’d want to do.
But for the rest, we ponder a box with several options to choose from. And we weigh the choices based on risk, reward, consequence, our walk with Christ, others’ opinions and more.
Personal selection seeks outcomes that will benefit our list of goals. Ones which help us directly are usually prioritized ahead of helping others. Yes?
Then, sometimes they entwine and, we get both. 2 for the price of 1.
And while facts are obvious and this focus — undisputed…it isn’t about our actions. One might argue that not making a choice is still a choice or that doing nothing is an still an elected path. But I’m not looking to split hairs or fruitlessly dive into a semantically driven, “nit-picking” session.
When we don’t get what we really do deserve, it’s called Mercy and when we get what we really don’t deserve, it’s called Grace. So is our action of Mercy to others an Inaction in their part?
Proverbs 17:27 “The one who has knowledge uses words with restraint, and whoever has understanding is even-tempered.”
What about Grace then…same question? Going even further, what about CHRIST’s actions on our behalf? HE endlessly blesses and restrains…both working all things together for our good. Romans 8:28.
Bluntly, here’s just how amazing both HIS Grace and Mercy are! Neither required nor needed any action on our part.
Consider by HIS Grace outpoured we are saved through HIS gift of Faith and HIM opening our hearts to believe and HE irresistibly draws HIS own (us) to HIMSELF AND…clearly explains we ourselves are a gift FROM GOD the FATHER to CHRIST.
What a wonderful SAVIOUR is HE! As I’ve written several times, no leaf deserves GOD’s praise because the SPIRIT moved / blew that leaf onward and forward. Now yes, we DO act within HIS Holy Wind but!! HE designed those good works we “do”…before Time.
HE created them long before our births for us to walk in daily with rejoicing! Compare a pinwheel “spinning in the wind. Is it the pinwheel moving”?
Let’s be clear. The pinwheel, just like you and I, just like all those HE used to take dictation, creating the WORD of GOD, were MOVED by the Holy SPIRIT. So the pinwheel doesn’t own the movement, the Wind does. Period.
“Wait a second! There’s Christian responsibility, right? We’d have to “let” HIM move us so that’s our action at the very least!” Did Saul “allow” GOD to blind and irreparably strip him of his old life; apprehending him suddenly? No. Period.
Allow me to ask another question and give another comparison. How do we experienced the very heights of GOD’s love, peace, Joy, Grace and Mercy? Through self effort outside of HIS winds? Absolutely not.
Matthew 11:30 “For MY yoke is easy and my burden is light!”
How is HIS command for us to “take” on HIS spiritual yoke as a burden and find it much lighter than our own burdens which HE promised and did take from us?
The burden of self-direction and self-powering work “for CHRIST” is a heavy stone which today’s Pharisees will gladly heap on your weary soul as often as they see or think of you.
HIS finished work is the WHY of how we can fully enjoy these blessed promises found in HIS WORD. We can’t clean up this flesh. Relentless actions to do so will meet with heavier burdens.
Sadly, just as CHRIST correctly accused the Pharisees of weighing down converts with their own laws and worries. But HIS finished work is all we have and need!
Revelation 1:8 “I AM the Alpha and the Omega,” says the LORD GOD, “WHO is, and WHO was, and WHO is to come, the ALMIGHTY!”
So since GOD IS the ALPHA and OMEGA, the Beginning and the End; giving us breath to be born and rest when HE takes us home, let us focus the credit for all actions to CHRIST alone!
Let us rejoice in HIS service and comparatively feather weight “burdens” WHEN we stand still on HIS firm foundation. When we never “take” Calvary for granted but always be still in faith, wholly dependent on HIS faithfulness.
Colossians 3:12 “Put on then, as GOD’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience…”
Now earlier I said that I wasn’t looking to split hairs or fruitlessly dive into a semantically driven, “nit-picking” session. But the VALUE of this dialogue is to point that every thing you have and all that you are upwards…to your CREATOR GOD.
So don’t glory in any self-ascribed or church-awarded levels of “responsible Christian service.” Remember! We’re the leaves and HE is the Wind.
Ride on the skies with HIM BECAUSE HE made them too! HE, as with Jonah, will get you to the destination HE wills for you…by whatever means HE chooses. We are privileged to be HIS vessels!
Therefore awake and arise in CHRIST’s unquestioned service! Both through your selfless action and HIS sovereign Inaction!
For within HIS solid footprints of Grace, Mercy, Faith and Love RESTS the power to extend each and all fully…to the Lost and to ourselves. Be then IMMOVABLE in HIM whilst ACTIVE in Faith and Love!
Amen…and amen again!
