1 Peter 2:2 “Like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may GROW in respect to salvation…”
Preparing The Meal!
Is your pastor the Butcher, the Milkman or Grocer? Do they handle HIS WORD with Entirity’s scope?
Do those sitting beside you seem “deep” in the Scriptures or floundering in waters well labeled as “surface”?
For such paper thin levels describe the fresh milk for the newborn whose knowledge…expectantly shallow.
But those faces have aged far beyond those of youth yet their frames haven’t grown, only skimming HIS truths.
What then? Shall we alter each diet till Meat is the substance exclusively preached from the pulpit?
Even when unbelievers, so lost, find our churches, shall we feed them beyond what their thoughts comprehend?
Absolutely and totally erred would we be…yet the Milkman and Butcher must not “stand alone”.
Consequently those given the role of HIS Shepherd must preach EVERY page with the zeal of HIS grocer…
Till Prophecy’s threads mesh with Hellfire and Brimstone as well as with Service, Communion and Love.
Then shall every soul in the Body be fed as CHRIST surely intended them be from HIS kitchen!
As HIServant reminding self most of all,
Devotional: Hebrews 5:12 “You have been believers so long now that you ought to be teaching others. Instead, you need someone to teach you again the basic things about GOD’s WORD. You are like babies who need milk and cannot eat solid food!”
Topical themes permeate Sunday services, Wednesday night Bible studies, youth groups and more. To be certain, we each have our leanings on which topics we prefer.
As such, the title of this poem/Devotional was first going to be “Lactose Intolerant” — referring to Christians remaining at the milk stage and never desiring the meat of HIS WORD. Hence the “butcher” reference.
But the same challenge can also exist here. We lose context with a steady diet of meat and lose sight of those still needing milk. Milk is a refresher at times to those of us who have walked with HIM for some time.
Even so, there is a third, earthly title for consideration. “Grocer”. The local Grocer (current/local pastor) should be one bringing not only milk and meat to serve to the congregation but also vegetables and fruits…of the SPIRIT.
GOD promises to supply all our needs but if the main church won’t distribute all of HIS WORD, what then?
Please don’t claim to lead a church with any SINGULAR message. If only meat, how serve you the Lost who physically come through your doors? If only milk, why isn’t the growth of the church Body prioritized?
If a message of Hellfire and Brimstone every Sunday, dragging people to the altar with Guilt-laden preaching, then where HIS promised rest?
How then is the church strengthened to walk on their own? That’s essentially bearing the flock every time the doors are opened. Far from nurturing, far from “feed and support MY sheep, Peter”.
Consequently, none cannot hide behind their own biblical leanings, degrees, giftings and preferences to just “feed” the Body their “comfort zone” style of preaching.
Going through the WORD weekly with the Body, verse by verse, gives us “pure milk and meat” as well as “pure vegetables and fruits”. But should we isolate on just one, we err. We attract only one group long term and their diets are compromised by our lack of attention to HIS entire WORD.
We must diligently preach all the WORD with HIS love and not just love only. Again, be GOD’s Grocer, not just the Milkman.
Amen and amen!
