Matthew 6:33 “But seek ye first the kingdom of GOD, and HIS righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
When the house is burning,
In the coldest of winters
Open doors “wasting heat”
do not trouble those fleeing.
When the flood waters rage
In the rainiest seasons,
none care for “spilt milk”
in a house — swept away.
When calls our CREATOR
will none heed HIS summons?
Will few choose to answer?
In like manner, disheartening,
such hosts prefer sleeping…
embracing those sights found
in “ostrich-like” views.
Such “hidden” intentions
attend then their blindness
with “hearing loss” cutting
them off from HIS truths.
So pray for the sightless,
those “dumb” and the deaf
for such perishing shall
“left behind” then become!
But for us who see greater
HIS picture — unveiling,
look now to the Heavens
because HE is coming!
As HIServant and expectant Bride member in your service,
Devotional: What excitement fills me as I read HIS WORD and witness it coming to life all the more in these days!
As I wrote “As Broken Bereans” yesterday about prioritizing the focus of our hearts upon CHRIST, an ironic contrast came to me.
Even ridiculous. When a house is burning down in the dead of winter, no one cares if a door is left open because they’re fleeing for their lives.
They’re running to escape the flames rather than save on their heating bill.
In like manner, the owners of a house being swept away in a massive, raging flood don’t worry about someone spilling a glass of milk on its floors.
The priority is to escape the waters which could drown them. Again, Survival is more important than mopping a soon to be, non-existent floor.
What a ridiculous comparison! But such are the events being compared today by so many. By believers AND non-believers.
Reconsider the tragic yet still classic account of some of the disinterested Titanic passengers.
The ship WAS indeed going down but some were inside getting dinner or drinking as they relaxed. The ironic contrast they believed in was that a man made vessel couldn’t sink.
Man made concepts and beliefs are the same and when reduced to the ridiculous such as these examples, will there yet be those who miss…getting out of the burning house?
Will there still be ostriches in need of healing or will they get out of the flooded house in time?
Sadly, my questions are rhetorical. They need no response nor answer because the facts are already in. Yes, countless numbers of them are more busy today with the things of life.
It’s like the analogy which Steven Covey wrote about a bunch of travelers cutting their way through a think jungle.
Suddenly, a wiser soul who climbed a tree and could see above all the trees realizes — given the clear view — that they’re going in the wrong direction.
But when they yell down to the others, they’re rebuked. “Be quiet!” comes the angry shout back. “Can’t you see we’re making progress?”
Movement made in the wrong direction is still wrong. As with “Be Broken Bereans” from yesterday’s post, a 50% me / 50 % GOD is an incorrect ratio.
Consider the following verses…
Luke 9:23 “And HE said to all, “If anyone would come after ME, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow ME.”.
Matthew 16:26 “What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?”
What indeed would you exchange? “Well, I was great in business so I have a million dollars to give in place of the things I was to do for CHRIST.” No, that doesn’t work.
“My life was as a great athlete and many thought I was their hero. So I’ll give all my athletic accomplishments as satisfactory payment for my lesser focus on the LORD.”
All our works are as filthy rags. Isaiah 64:6 “All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away.”
Our self serving acts in business or athletics or “fill in your own blank” are filthy rags. AND! Even our righteous acts compared to HIS perfect work done at Calvary are filthy rags as well.
The point is our hearts are most often disproportionately and much lesser focused on what TRULY matters. We fit GOD time into our earthly walk and many boast for the 15% “surrendered” to HIM.
Take James 4:8 to heart. “Draw near to GOD, and HE will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.”
“Double-minded” in whatever area we hold back from GOD. Torn between two sides, one worthy and one unworthy. Seriously, that’s what HIS WORD says about our works.
Back to the examples of Ironic Contrast. Let me provide one more that recently was heard. You’re in a fancy restaurant.
An impeccably, well dressed waiter comes up to your table and with a flowing, French accent asks most politely, “How much poison would you like with your wine?”
You’d be startled for certain but I know that you’d emphatically tell him, “None!”
Yet! We entertain greater percentages of poison in our daily lives because CHRIST truly isn’t our love. Business success is. Athletic awards are.
The want of material gain, as such, pollutes our thoughts so that a 50/50 split between GOD and self seems to be too much given to our CREATOR.
Matthew 6:19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal…”
Now I’m not talking about parking your body in the church pew and with enough time spent there, you become a Christian. No, not at all.
Advocating for HIM solely and speaking most of all to myself, it’s the times you engage in as a Broken Berean.
John 3:30 “HE must increase, but I must decrease!” “All to JESUS, I surrender…”
Surrendered! Ever seeking to deliver more of CHRIST to the world through our daily actions as an emptied vessel, humbled and contrite.
So be on the watch for the ostriches around you, both believers and unbelievers.
Both are in need of rescue and healing. Direct them out of the doomed houses and vehicles they hide their heads in and lead them to the Cross.
Psalms 46:10 “Be still, and know that I AM GOD. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”
Lift up HIS NAME in everything! Not as a sidebar statement or an afterthought at the podium after taking all the credit and then saying, “Oh yeah, and thank GOD.”
The Hour is shorter than we assume and HIS long awaited return means we’ll soon see HIM face-to-face! Focus then on HIS face alone committing Matthew 6:33 to memory AND daily practice more so!
“But seek ye first the kingdom of GOD, and HIS righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
AMEN and Amen!
